A local newspaper has reported that the Care Quality Commission has again raised concerns about services provided to expectant mothers and new born babies at Basildon Hospital.[1]
The newspaper article says that “Basildon Hospital’s maternity unit was branded as inadequate earlier this year by the care quality commission after it was found that six babies were “born in a poor condition”.”
It goes on to say that a spokesman for the CQC said: “We inspected maternity services at Basildon Hospital on September 18 in response to ongoing concerns and to check on whether improvements had been made following a warning notice that was served by CQC in the summer.”
The Maternity Unit at Basildon Hospital was asked by the CQC in August 2020 to make improvements.[2]
We have assisted people in a similar position to those reported in the article to recover compensation as a result of failings within this Maternity Unit. We have also highlighted other recent problems within this unit.[3]
Strangely their website says the Unit is run by Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust[4], however it is now run by Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust[5]
