Due to continued growth we are looking to recruit a Paralegal to join our very busy Mental Health Department to provide support and assist the fee earners in the preparation and conduct of cases.This position involves a deal of travelling to hospitals and tribunals and is based at our Grays office but the successful candidate may be expected to work at any of our other offices as and when required.We are looking for someone who has:• Strong academic background with 2.1 law degree or above • An enthusiasm to work in this area of law • Has a commitment to helping those most disadvantaged in society and to do so in a way that’s compassionate and understanding • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written to be able to engage with a wide range of people and be sensitive to the challenging nature of the problems that our clients face • Demonstrate a commitment to achieving the Law Society Mental Health Accreditation to enable you to undertake Tribunal work • Previous experience of working in a Legal Aid Mental Health team is desirable but not essentialDuties will include but not limited to:• Attending clients at hospitals to take initial instructions; • Attending clients where appropriate to do so of relevant matters under supervision, including taking instructions on reports prepared for hearings; • Attending tribunals, hospital manager hearings, care programme approach meetings with solicitors; • Preparation of skeleton arguments for hearings;This role requires someone who is able to engage with a wide range of people and be sensitive to the challenging nature of the problems our clients face.Excellent career progression opportunities for those who have completed their LPC with an option to apply for training contract after a qualifying period.
