Jane Morel

Jane joined Sternberg Reed in October 2017 as Head of Private Client department having held similar role at her previous firm. She is an affiliate member of STEP and acts for diverse types of clients ranging from low to high net worth clients.

Some of Jane’s work involves helping her clients to structure their estate and financial affairs such that their exposure to inheritance tax is minimised and they are able to preserve their businesses and personal assets for the next generation through careful estate planning and use of Trusts both during their lifetime, in their Wills and post death. She recently assisted a high net worth family with Property trust to ring-fence the specified properties for some children of the family whilst the rest of the family wealth is dealt with differently in order to mitigate inheritance tax and to ensure that certain assets remain in the family for the benefit of future generations. Estate and tax planning using trusts is a very complex area of law and expert advice and guidance is needed to make sure that the options put in place are tailored to your needs and family circumstances.

One of the other areas that Jane is also passionate about is in helping protection the assets and dignity of the vulnerable. She has extensive experience in acting as an Attorney under Lasting Power of Attorney and as Deputy for those who can no longer manage their own affairs or those who suffers from catastrophic injuries that render them unable to manage their own affairs. She ensures that their affairs are well managed and their dignity maintained at all times in collaboration with their family and friends.

Wills

By putting in place a Will you can ensure that your estate passes according to your wishes on your death. Jane can advise on the type of Will that is suitable for you based on your personal circumstances. A properly drafted Will can save you a lot of tax. Tax and estate planning can be undertaken during your lifetime, in a Will or post death. Jane has a wealth of knowledge and experience in this area to advise you on the Inheritance Tax (“IHT”) position of your estate, Capital Gains Tax (“CGT”), Income Tax (“IT”) and other form of taxes.

Probate

Jane and her team understand that the death of a loved one is often a very difficult and stressful time for the family. With over 15 years experience assisting bereaved families with the administration of estates in a sensitive and professional manner, Jane is able to assist with the administration of any estate whatever the size and whether there is a Will or not. She is also highly experienced in administering high value estate where there are assets oversees in different jurisdiction. Her network of professionals across many countries ensures that the administration process is conducted in a seamless, timely and cost effective manner. She has administered estates worth millions.

Elderly and vulnerable clients

Jane is very passionate about assisting elderly clients wherever possible and determined to obtain the best possible outcome for them in areas such as assisting them to put in place Lasting Power of Attorney, applications to the Court of Protection for deputyship order for those who have lost the mental capacity to make a Lasting Power of Attorney or simply with the preparation of a General Power of Attorney for a short term use. She regularly acts as attorney or a deputy for clients who have come to rely on her expert guidance and professionalism. Whatever the circumstances, it is well worth talking to Jane.
