Family Law Solicitors and Divorce Lawyers in Barking, Grays and Romford, East London, Essex

Can I get a divorce?

You should be able to get a divorce or dissolve the civil partnership if you have been married or been in a civil partnership for more than one year, and your marriage or civil partnership has broken down for any of the five legal reasons.

How much will a divorce cost?

Your divorce lawyer will be able to tell you whether you are entitled to Legal Aid. If you are not entitled to Legal Aid we will be able to give you an idea of the likely cost of the divorce. We offer a fixed fee 30 minutes meeting at £50 plus VAT.

How long will a divorce take?

A straight-forward divorce normally takes between 4 and 6 months.

What about the money, the home and seeing the children?

Your family law solicitor will be able to explain simply what is involved and how you go about making your arrangements. Our aim will be to try and reach an amicable divorce settlement, but if this is not possible, to advise you on an application to the Court. We can also help to draw up a separation agreement if you do not wish to go to court.  We can also, where appropriate, refer you to a mediator to assist you and your partner reaching agreement.

My partner and I were never married.

You still need to make arrangements, especially if you have children or own property together or have a potential claim against your partner's property. Your family law solicitor will be able to explain your options.

My partner is violent towards me. What can I do?

The court can protect you and can also order your partner to leave home. Your family law solicitor can act quickly where you or your children are in danger or there is a risk of your child being abducted.

I have no money. Can I get maintenance?

We will assist you in trying to reach an agreement with your former partner, but where this is not possible, we can advise either on a maintenance application through the courts or advise you about applying to the Child Support Agency.

Is your case about care or adoption of children?

If you are involved in any way in a case about children who have been or might be taken into care by Social Services, or adopted, we can help and we also have a specialist team of Child Care and Adoption Lawyers. Click on the link for further details.

Disagreements about who the children live with, or the arrangements to see a parent they are not living with.

These problems, usually known as disputes about residence or contact, are quite common. We can advise and represent you. It is often best for the children if you can sort out these disputes by agreement. We know sometimes this is not possible, and in these cases we will negotiate with the other person involved or argue the case in court.
