About Us
Geoffrey Sternberg began practising as a sole practitioner in Barking in 1976, under the name 'Geoffrey Sternberg and Co'. Some years later Gordon Reed joined the firm as an Assistant Solicitor, becoming a partner in 1980. Gordon now acts as a practising consultant to the firm.
The firm has acquired an excellent reputation for the quality of the legal services it provides and as a result has expanded considerably in the last thirty four years. It is now one of the largest firms in East London and Essex with sixteen partners, and occupies two premises in Barking, one in Romford and one in Grays. Clients are also able to be seen at offices in Central London .
The firm has always recognised the importance to its clients of providing quality services.
In 1994 we were one of the first firms of Solicitors with whom the Legal Aid Board (now the Legal Services Commission) entered into a Franchise Agreement. We now have contracts with the LSC for many types of publicly funded work.
In 1995 the firm obtained the internationally recognised accreditation for Quality Management BS EN ISO 9001, under the aegis of Lloyds Register Quality Assurance.
1999 saw us receive the 'Investor in People' accreditation, demonstrating our commitment to the well-being of our staff and particularly their training and career structures.
We have maintained these awards over many years, being regularly reviewed by external agents to confirm our compliance and are seeking always to improve the delivery of service.
In 2010 we were successful in achieving the Lexcel accreditation awarded by the Law Society demonstrating the quality measures we have in place to ensure a high level of service to our clients. This award, achieved so far by only 6% of solicitors in England and Wales was presented to the firm at its offices by the President of the Law Society.
These developments have raised the profile of the firm and enabled it to successfully tender for contracts to supply legal services to Institutions and Local Authorities over a wide area of work and locations.
We believe a fundamental reason for our successful growth is the decision early on to set up separate work-type departments, i.e. Criminal Law, Conveyancing, Civil Litigation and Family Law. This means our lawyers will only carry out work within their own specialist field of expertise. As a result of this our clients can have confidence they are dealing with someone who is fully conversant with their problem and up to date with the state of the law.
